Dialogue between cultures and social entrepreneurship

Cross skills such as leadership, motivation and cooperation, with particular attention given to the intercultural contexts of origin of the participants, were the focus of the training courses developed with the social and community theatre methodology of the SCT Centre|Unito and promoted by United Alliance for Civilization (www.unaoc.org). In particular, they were organised in the frame of the following projects, which are devoted to the education of youth in social entrepreneurship: Young Euro-Med Entrepreneurs in Interculturality (February 2013), Youth Solidarity Fund – Intercultural Innovation Award (June 2013), Entrepreneurs for Social Change (October 2014).

Dialogue between cultures and social entrepreneurship

Ottobre 2013 – ottobre 2014

Cross skills such as leadership, motivation and cooperation, with particular attention given to the intercultural contexts of origin of the participants, were the focus of the training courses developed with the social and community theatre methodology of the SCT Centre|Unito and promoted by United Alliance for Civilization (www.unaoc.org). In particular, they were organised in the frame of the following projects, which are devoted to the education of youth in social entrepreneurship: Young Euro-Med Entrepreneurs in Interculturality (February 2013), Youth Solidarity Fund – Intercultural Innovation Award (June 2013), Entrepreneurs for Social Change (October 2014)

Objectives – The courses, which aim at meeting specific needs changing from time to time, are held by Alessandra Rossi Ghiglione and SCT Centre|Unito experts, who work in close collaboration with the UNAOC team, joining the other training activities in a multidisciplinary perspective. The courses are held combining the features of capacity building and team building used by SCT with the objectives of the Unaoc trainings, which bring together entrepreneurship and promotion of intercultural dialogue.

Promoting institutions – Unaoc (YEMEI; YSF-IIA, E4SC), Ministero degli Affari Esteri Italia (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, YEMEI, E4SC), Fondazione CRT (YEMEI, E4SC)

Addressees – Young people from the Mediterranean area (YEMEI, E4SC) and from the world (YSF_IIA)

Methodology and format – during an intensive workshop, which can last from four hours to a day, the participants are involved in two different kinds of activities which are typical of theatre training: a) the training course about self-awareness, relationship and communication; b) the creation of scenes and stories. The training phase consists of a series of practices – games, exercises, body training – whose order is defined by the SCT methodology. These activities, which are typical of the actor’s training, have been revisited by SCT and are aimed at enhancing individual and group skills such as presence quality, relationship effectiveness, analysis, evaluation and action skills while acting in a context, creativity, problem solving, leadership, motivation and cooperation. In the creation phase, the work related to the staging of situations with characters and the development of stories combined with the use of real situations belonging to the experience of the participants are used to explore the dynamics of role and context, in order to enhance the ability of choice and action, in particular as regards the complexity – and the conflicts – characterising intercultural contexts and the role of young people among the generations. SCT gives particular attention to relationship and art in the perspective of a human pedagogy which is deeply connected to professional training and the creation of inclusive and plural societies.
